By now, almost everybody who owns a smartphone knows about QR code. Most of the QR code you see are a bunch of black jumbled encoded data, if you do not pay attention, they all look the same. Boring and confusing…

Well, you CAN, actually decorate your QR code to be unique and stylish by adding your company logo or customized picture into it!

Here is how:

1. The Simple Method

head over to Unitag

specify what data you want to embed in the QR code

decide the size of the QR code

make some twist by changing the color of the image

When you’re done, click the “Generate” button

there, you have a colorful and stylish QR code image.

Just download it and use as you wish!

2. The Expert Method

assume that you have essential knowledge of image editing using Photoshop or any other professional image editing program.

generate a QR code for your link — you might use this site here

change “correction level” to be “h”

change module size to be “0.1″

leave the rest of the settings as it is.

Do not forget to enter your link at the “Barcode Properties” area on the top

generate the code and save the image.

open the QR code image in your image editing program

adding a white circle or oval at the center of the image (as the backgroun)

putting a desire image on top of the whiteout section

using the smartphone to scan it see if the code still can be recognized.

if not, reduce the size of the customized image and whiteout area, (just a smidge at a time until the smartphone can recognize the code)

Then save it and, wala, you have your own pretty QR code to show off on your fliers or business cards.

CSS Zen Garden proved that we can alter a design into a myriad of permutations simply by changing the CSS. However, we’ve rarely seen the flip side of this — the side that is more likely to occur in a project: the HTML changes. We modify the HTML and then have to go back and revise any CSS that goes with it.

In this way, we haven’t really separated the two, have we? We have to make our changes in two places.

Author Jonathan Snook provided detailed examples of how to decouple HTML from CSS.

He’s provide two ways to decouple HTML from CSS:

Using child selectors,

Using class selectors.

Have a website and want to know the minute your site is down? This simple Google Docs spreadsheet from Digital Inspiration can email you and monitor your website for free.

To do so, make a copy of the Google Docs spreadsheet. Then change the website URL to your website and the email address to your email. That’s the email you’ll be notified for uptime and downtime.

Then in the Google Docs menu, you’ll need to go to Tools –> Script Editor –> Resources –> Current Script’s Triggers. Under the Run drop-down menu, select “isMySiteDown”, under Events, select “Time-driven”, and then select “Minutes timer” and choose if you want to be notified every minute or every 5 minutes—for how often you want the website to be checked.

Save the trigger and authorize Google Docs, then re-save. To get the script to run, hit the run triangle play button in the script editor.

Enable Facebook

Check the box next to Facebook to enable sign-up and sign-in with that service. This will bring up a lightbox. You’ll need to create a new sign-up/sign-in Facebook App to enable Social Sign In. Click on the “Create” link in the lightbox to get started.

You’ll be redirected to Facebook where you will sign in with your Facebook credentials. You’ll then see the options to set up your app. Name your new Facebook application and then agree to Facebook’s Terms and Conditions. When you’re finished, click the “Create Application” button. On the following page, do not click the “Save Changes” button just yet.

You may need to enter a CAPTCHA to get to the next step. When you see your app’s page, click “Web Site” in the list on the left. In the “Site URL” field, paste the corresponding web address from the lighbox on your network. You must enter the full URL including “http://” and the backslash at the end. In the “Site Domain” field, paste the corresponding address from the lightbox on your network.

When you’re done, click the “Next” button in the lightbox on your network and the “Save Changes” button on Facebook. After you save the page, you’ll be taken to the My Applications page, with your app selected. There, you’ll see your Application ID, API Key and Application Secret.

Copy each back into the appropriate fields in the lightbox on your Ning Network.

Click “Save” on the lightbox and then the “Save” button on the Sign-up/Sign-in page, as well.

Allowing your members to sign up and sign in through Google or Yahoo! only takes a click. Just check the Google or Yahoo! checkbox and click “Save.”

Learning is a lifetime project, especially for us as web designers, if you want to keep the pace with the technologies, the demand of the clients, you got to learn — A LOT every day!

Recently a huge amount of change has been noticed in the field of internet services because now the users can access it through the mobile devices. Consequently there is a need for the web designers to be well equipped in this arena and the web designers must be able to design websites that satisfy these customers.

Here is a great article posted by Adrian at Design Modo that shares the keys and challenges of designing Mobile websites and a lot of great examples of Mobile Web Design in the field.

Simple options

White space

Lack of images

Sub-domains instead of .mob or separate domains

Prioritized contents

In the path of web designing, designers face certain hurdles which they need to overcome in order to make a prospective mobile website. You would possibly face these following challenges if you have made up your mind to design mobiles:

Variety of screen sizes

Lack of understanding

Rapid change

Testing challenges

Deciding on what is essential
